VAUXHALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Vauxhall Elementary School is an Early Learning to grade six elementary school of approximately 140 students with a staff of 23. We are located approximately 20 minutes North of Taber or 50 minutes northeast of Lethbridge.  

Regular Educational Assistant – approx. 8.5 hours/week 

Hours of work - Mondays and Wednesdays 12:10 p.m. - 3:12 p.m. and Fridays 8:15 a.m.- 12:05 p.m.

We are seeking a patient, caring, and enthusiastic Educational Assistant to support our Early Learning Program. This individual will play an important role in helping our youngest learners develop foundational communication, social, and self-regulation skills through a play-based learning environment. The programming will be set in conjunction with the Early Learning and kindergarten teachers. The successful candidate will work 1:1 with Early Learning aged students who have accessed extra hours into our kindergarten programming. 

The ideal candidate will work closely with students and staff to establish positive routines, encourage appropriate behaviours, and create a safe and welcoming space where children can learn, explore, and grow. A strong understanding of child development and a passion for supporting early learners are essential.

An Educational Assistant in Horizon School Division: 

• Encourages students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
• Maintains confidentiality and a patient, supportive and enthusiastic commitment to students.
•  As required, provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc. ensuring that student dignity is maintained.  Attends to physical needs including lifting, positioning, and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
• Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring student equipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving students who attempt to leave their learning environment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting students who utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
• Maintains collegial relationships with the students' learning team.
